We are in a world hurt. My eyes have always been wide open. I paid attention to everything as a little girl. One thing I noticed is how many people were unhappy or discontent. In the idle moments, when people don’t think they are being watched, you can really see someone’s pain or unhappiness. Everybody has been hurt and it is my belief that we all hurt in the same amount over the course of our lives. We all define hurt differently and experience it differently so we can’t compare our pain with anyone elses pain because of the individual lenses in which we experience our lives. But, here are tips to help you let go or consider letting go from the moments that paralyze you.
Identify the Monster
Did you ever fear the monsters in the closet as a kid? While monsters are in a child’s wild imagination the scars, pain or stories we tell ourselves about our past are the grown up monsters in the closet. What moments from your past continue to plague your present? Did someone ever make you feel like you weren’t good enough or smart enough? Did you ever make someone feel that way? Did someone call you names or make fun of any part of your body? Did you ever say something that you regret?
Face the Monster
I worked on my throat chakra prior to taking voice classes. During that time, I wrote a letter to my child self and forgave my child self for the moments that she hurt or didn’t speak up when people were mean. It was very therapeutic and freeing. Try it. Write a letter to yourself or to someone who has hurt you. And reclaim that story. Glean from it the lessons that you learned or may have overlooked because you were too close to see the bigger picture. Try to see that moment in a new light. If these people are in your life speak from your heart and let them know you are sorry or that you were hurt when the situation occurred. People may not always forgive you, but the most important thing is to forgive yourself.
Let Go
This year I have let go a lot, while it is easier it is still difficult. What is hard is to let go when you see your part in a hard moment from your past. The moments you gave away your power or the warning sign you didn’t see. When moments from our past strike chords within us in our present it is dead weight in life. It will hold you captive from further growth or further life until you release yourself from that pain. There is a belief that those things that we are not at ease with become a dis-ease or toxin in our bodies and can manifest into an actual disease.
I Dare You to Move.
Letting go is hard. The past does not define you. You are defined by the present moment. Every moment is a moment to change it all. Take back your power, you deserve it.
The song “Dare You to Move” by Switchfoot helped me get through my betrayal. May it serve as a mantra for any past or present moments that you are working through.
“Dare You to Move” by Switchfoot
Welcome to the planet
Welcome to existence
Everyone’s here
Everyone’s here
Everybody’s watching you now
Everybody waits for you now
What happens next
What happens next
[Chorus]
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened before
Welcome to the fallout
Welcome to resistance
The tension is here
Tension is here
Between who you are and who you could be
Between how it is and how it should be
[Chorus]
Maybe redemption has stories to tell
Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell
Where can you run to escape from yourself?
Where you gonna go?
Where you gonna go?
Salvation is here
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened
Today never happened
Today never happened before
