I am headed back to my home town after my weekend in Chicago. My month of writing (Shake it Out – My Month of Writing) has me thinking a lot about where I place my focus and what I expect as a result of that focus. As a natural goal setter, I am really good at focusing in on my goal until that goal is achieved. And as a deep thinker I am even better at thinking about life in its finite detail. While focus is great for goal setting, focus can hinder the level of enjoyment if we focus on the wrong things or have too many expectations. Stepping into my month of writing I set goals for myself and was open to all possibilities beyond my expectations, beyond my focus and beyond the reality that I know. As a result of letting go of expectations, many pleasant surprises have come up.
“I am open to the guidance of synchronicity*, and do not let expectations hinder my path.” – Dalai Lama
*Synchronicity happens when you align with the flow of the universe rather than insisting the universe flow your way.
