Mindful Monday #123 – I Love and Accept Myself

I have been trying to diligently write a book for the past few weeks. While I am writing, I am in a place of surrender.

New insights have emerged along with memories I had long forgot about. I know I am uncovering something or being lead somewhere valuable for my writing or the next chapter of my life. I have no idea what I will learn and I am curious, but I am not afraid. Between my writing and deep meditation on the book, I read.

I am reading the awareness expanding book  Eastern Body, Western Mind by Anodea Judith. Each chapter moves up to the next chakra or energy center in the body. It’s  getting harder to read the book because it’s dripping with raw truth. I am gaining a deeper understanding of people I have encountered throughout my life and I see the foundation of the ills of the world through the unbalanced chakras that the author discusses particularly todays chakra.

The 3rd Chakra or Solar Plexus is located in the abdomen and it’s desire is to “act and be an individual”. This is the chakra of our personal power or will. We are all born with all the power of our will that we need, but based on our experiences it either helps or hinders our awareness to our personal power and our ability to access it.

When this chakra is balanced we have a good sense of personal power, confidence and good self-esteem.  If this chakra is excessive we can be power hungry, aggressive, manipulative or violent. If this chakra is out of balance we lack will, energy or are passive. Shame is the gatekeeper to balancing this chakra and it keep people from asserting their true self.

On a societal level we are give arch-types of what it is to be a man, woman, religious person, ethnic, successful person, and how we should express ourselves and our sexuality etc. when we fall out of line or do not live up to those arch-types we are shamed by our peers and overtime we shame and monitor ourselves.

To balance this chakra we need to face our fears and assert our will as well as our authentic self. Be pro-active and take steps towards what you want, face your fears and in time you will build a sense of personal power which frees you to be the person you want to be and do what you want to do with your life.

Todays mantra asks you to love and accept yourself.
