Happy Monday!
I understand it can be challenging to find happiness on a Monday such as this in the middle of a pandemic.
The life that we have grown accustomed to is disrupted by COVID -19 which has brought about a lot of uncertainty, events postponed or canceled, businesses temporarily closed, some of us working remotely all in the name of social distancing.
I can write more, but I do not want to add to the growing stress and anxiety that is most likely present within your life or body from each news update.
This Mindful Monday my invitation is to focus on your breath. Your breath is the first sign of life and sustains you in your day to day. As a yoga teacher, I teach that when you focus on your breath in your practice it helps you sustain a challenging pose.
Your breath is your anchor.
Your breath anchors you in your present moment when you breathe mindfully. Throughout the day take time for yourself. Breathe slowly and deeply into your belly, ribcage and chest. Now exhale slowly from your chest, ribcage and your belly. Allow your exhalations to be longer than your inhalations. Repeat this mindful breath three to four times in one session.
When your exhalation is longer than your inhalation, it calms down your nervous system. Mindful breath also helps to quiet the mind and brings you into the now aka present moment.
Whenever you feel stressed or anxious throughout your day, pause and engage in mindful breathing. Remember your breath is your anchor and it will help sustain you during these challenging times.
