It’s Tuesday and boy do we need music now more than ever.
Instead of drowning out the noise, we need to cut through it because the noise can over take us or even overwhelm up.
Even though I have a mindfulness and meditation practice, I find myself challenged to remain calm and at peace at different times this year. As I watch the news I can feel my heart wanting to close for protection, I feel my emotions showing me what matters and I feel my voice vibrating to speak.
The United States is at a level of division unlike anything I have ever seen. I first became concerned with the growing division back in 2016. There were so many protests which was beautiful to see. One thought that I had however, was who is listening? Are these protestors really being heard? That concern continued to grow overtime.
If people are not hearing each other, we risk not being able to see or understand each other. That, can lead us to rest on our assumptions or generalizations about others, which can be dangerous.
It is for this concern of people not connecting that I decided to do my part to create spaces for people to come together and speak to each other in a way that is therapeutic and healing. It is always a type of communication that we often hunger for, but don’t know it until we experience it.
We don’t have healthy examples of how to move through conflict, between individuals with different beliefs, using nothing more than communication. Often we have been told not to talk about the “hot,” “controversial” or “political” topics. The things that we don’t want to talk about and were told not to talk about, that we absolutely need to talk about. Otherwise it is an unhealed wound or pain point that will continue to grow and get agitated each time something occurs that hits on that pain point.
Today’s Tune, “We Can Work It Out” by the Beatles, is one that I have been thinking about for the past few weeks. It is a song of the hope that we need to hold in our heart and in our mind of a possibility that is within our reach, to stop or slow down enough to really listen and speak from the heart, not from the wound. It is when we do this, that things can shift in us and in others and we can start getting somewhere to work through some of our nation’s oldest yearnings.
Remember “Life is very short, and there’s no time, For fussing and fighting, my friend” “we can work it out.”

Music and lyrics below.
We can work it Out by the Beatles
Try to see it my way
Do I have to keep on talking ’til I can’t go on?
While you see it your way
Run the risk of knowing that our love may soon be gone
We can work it out
We can work it out
Think of what you’re saying
You can get it wrong and still you think that it’s alright
Think of what I’m saying
We can work it out and get it straight, or say good night
We can work it out
We can work it out
Life is very short, and there’s no time
For fussing and fighting, my friend
I have always thought that it’s a crime
So, I will ask you once again
Try to see it my way
Only time will tell if I am right or I am wrong
While you see it your way
There’s a chance that we might fall apart before too long
We can work it out
We can work it out
Life is very short, and there’s no time
For fussing and fighting, my friend
I have always thought that it’s a crime
So, I will ask you once again
Try to see it my way
Only time will tell if I am right or I am wrong
While you see it your way
There’s a chance that we might fall apart before too long
We can work it out
We can work it out
